I used to have a fetish for journals!

You know, the ones with lots of questions, habits, and accountability tools.

Every time I would find a new journal, I would order it and feel so excited.

I was sure that now I would crack the code of productivity.

When I would receive the journal, I would feel the excitement like a small kid!

I would unpack my new friend, and immediately start filling out the first day diligently, often taking me close to half an hour.

But then something odd would happen:

On one of the following mornings, my kids would interrupt me while filling out my journal.

Another day I would wake up too late and rush out of the house for a meeting.

And over time, I would betray my journal for several days in a row.

This would make me feel guilty.

So I would stop this practice until I would discover a new journal- and repeat the whole process all over again.

Here is what I discovered.

In theory, it sounds cool to have many questions and to spend 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening with my journal.

But it is a commitment that is hard to follow through, especially if we are super busy.

Recently, my wife bought me the 5-minute journal.

It starts with a quote and has these three questions for me to fill in each morning:

  1. I am grateful for….
  2. What would make today great?
  3. Daily affirmations. I am…

These questions prime me to feel good and be focused for the day- I really don’t need more!

In the evening it asks me these two follow up questions.

  1. Three amazing things that happened today…
  2. How could I have made today even better?

When I answer these, I know how my day went and how I can optimize myself.

It’s a very effective process, and so easy to follow through.

Asking questions, especially in these turbulent and stressful times, will help you shape your mood and stay productive, without feeling overwhelmed or burdened.

Therefore I highly recommend you try asking yourself a set of questions in the morning and in the evening.

Day 13: Daily Questions

For tomorrow, I want you to ask yourself these three questions, within the first hour of waking up:

  1. I am grateful for….
  2. What would make today great?
  3. Daily affirmations. I am…

You can set an alarm clock, or write them on a note next to your bed, or on your working desk.

See how these simple questions can affect how you feel, and what you do.

Then for the evening, ask yourself:

  1. Three amazing things that happened today…
  2. How could I have made today even better?

Speak tomorrow,

Warm regards, Allon
